English for Immigrants and Students
Since I came to Australia I’ve had two major issues/challenges:
- Speaking proper English
- Finding friends
Although I’ve had improvements in speaking English and making friends, I still have a long way to be able to speak easy-to-understand English and make a big circle of friends. In this post I will mention how you can improve your English speaking skill and communicate better. Later, I will also write about making friends in Australia.
Workplace Bullying
One of the important things that any newcomer has to learn is their rights and responsibilities in their new country. As a new resident, you must know that what are your responsibilities in every specific situation as well as knowing how to defend your rights. Since working in a completely new and different work environment may be challenging for many of us, in this article we will discuss workplace bullying.Dress Code in Australia
One thing that you have to learn in order to live happily and luckily in Australia is its dress codes. You may come from a culture that does not have such a thing or it has different dress codes. For example, last year I was invited to the company’s end of year ceremony. It was said that the dress code is “Dress To Impress”. As I did not have any ideas that what was “Dress To Impress”, I Googled this term and I ended up reading an article written by a famous east European fashion designer. He had mentioned that in order to dress to impress, a man must have a suit and a tie on. Well, as you can tell, I showed up in the party with a suit and a tie, and felt embarrassed because nobody else had a similar dress. How to save money (and someday become rich) in Australia?
A person who has just started living in Australia is financially vulnerable. It is more difficult to find a job for such people and they are more likely to lose their job as they are not yet completely adapted and have not learned the tricks. Thus, if you are living in Australia and especially in an expensive city such as Sydney, you must control and reduce your expenses as much as possible.
