Queensland and its Capital City Brisbane
Queensland and its capital city Brisbane are famous for its sub-tropical climate, easy going atmosphere, nightlife and spotless sandy beaches. That is why, tourists from around the world call this a truly unique piece of geography which is full of sunshine. The Gold Coast region is located 70kms south of Queensland's capital city, Brisbane, and almost 1000 km north of the capital of New South Wales, Sydney. It has an estimated population of 480,000 and is Australia's sixth largest city. At the centre of the Gold Coast region is the popular and well known suburb of Surfers Paradise.
Brisbane is the capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland and the third most populous city in Australia. It is named after the river on which it sits on. Its metropolitan area has a population of over 2 million and constitutes the core of the South East Queensland agglomeration, which encompasses more than 3 million people. The history of Brisbane has a long span; the first European settlement in Queensland was a penal colony at Redcliffe, 28 kilometres (17 mi) north of the Brisbane central business district, in 1824.
The Climate on the Gold Coast is a comfortable sub-tropical climate averaging in the 20s and is enjoyable all year round. The weather makes it favourable for a vast range of attractions and activities including four big theme parks that provide hours and hours, if not days, of entertainment value with something on offer for everyone. The four theme parks are Movie World, Wet 'n' Wild, Sea World and Dreamworld, and are located between the suburbs of Southport and Coomera.
The Gold Coast and Brisbane feature clean and tidy beaches running almost the entire length of the regions coastline, and face the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean. It also has a favourable climate, endless attractions, nightlife, dining, along with a safe environment. That is why this place is known as one of Australia's favourite holiday destination. Adventure attractions are endless and include motor bike tours, parasailing, sky diving, hot air ballooning, jet skiing, power boating, helicopter tours, go carting and motor racing. Another attraction is deep sea fishing along with whale- and dolphin-watching tours. Other marine activities include fishing at the beach or along the river ways, swimming, skiing, diving and snorkelling. It has also some sporting facilities. The Gold Coast is home to over 20 of Australia's leading golf resorts with picturesque backdrops and meticulously manicured greens.
Another popular feature of Brisbane is its famous nightclubs, located on Cavill Avenue and Orchid Avenue where people can party to the early hours. There are also two nightclubs located in Broadbeach as well as a large casino and convention centre. Taverns and surf clubs are also popular here.
Brisbane has multi-campus universities and colleges including Griffith University, Queensland University of Technology and the University of Queensland. Other universities which have campuses in Brisbane include the Australian Catholic University, Central Queensland University, James Cook University, JMC Academy, University of Southern Queensland and the University of the Sunshine Coast. Brisbane is also home to numerous other independent tertiary providers, including the Australian College of Natural Medicine, the Brisbane College of Theology, as well as Jschool: Journalism Education & Training.
